Here's some great info to help you keep your pet and you safe and happy!
Basic Pet Care
Water available at all times.
Food at least once a day.
Give your pet the proper pet food, not junk food. No chocolate, especially for dogs.
Provide a bed or someplace comfortable to sleep.
Provide shelter from rain, snow and cold weather. Also, provide shelter from the sun in warm weather.
Your pet needs attention and exercise. Play with your pet daily.
Provide your pet with toys. They need something to play with when you're not around.
Clean up after your pet – kitty litter, hamster cage, bird cage, or dog poop in the yard.

Animals in cages (mice, hamsters, guinea pigs, etc.) need room to move, toys, and exercise.

Other Pet Care
Your pet needs to be groomed and kept clean. Long haired pets are prone to mats in their coats. Regular brushing helps keep mats from forming and also keeps their coats shining.
Your pet needs some training. Read a book or take some classes on training your dog or other pet.
Dogs need to be on a leash when in public. Keep them safe by taking them on a leash when walking.
Cats live longer when kept indoors. Clip their nails and provide a scratching post to limit scratching on the furniture.
Do not chain your dog. Dogs that are chained all day are bored and lonely and may become aggressive or be injured by the chain.
Dogs and cats need identification tags or chips so that they can be identified if they are found if they become lost.
Do not leave your pet in the car when the weather is hot.
Extra care may be needed if your pet is afraid of loud noises. Pay attention to your pet when a thunderstorm, or Fourth of July fireworks are shooting off.

Research the type of pet or breed of dog before selecting your pet. Choose a pet that is right for you.

Spay or neuter your animals. Help prevent pet overpopulation.
